Her angry curses rang in Chakotay's ears as her nails dug into his hand. Never had he heard Kathryn talk like this. He wasn't surprised that she knew the words just that she was using them in the presence of others and directing them at him. He tried to calm to her, but she ignored him. If anything, his patient voice and unruffled demeanor seemed to rouse her to greater anger. She was becoming positively cruel and it cut him to the quick.

"Don't worry, Chakotay, she won't even remember she said all those things after she sees the baby."
